History

vimac was established with the main aim of "making media accessible". Printed materials are inaccessible to too many people for a variety of reasons – we aim to remedy that!

Its director, Paul Thornton, worked for many years in the Educational Service for the Visually Impaired in Humberside, He was the ICT co-ordinator, assessing pupil needs and advising on suitable technology.

vimac offers a full Transcription Service from your original print versions of information into Braille, Modified Large Print and Daisy versions.

It also offers Awareness Training on visual impairment for companies, Assessment of Suitable Access Technology, provision of Access Technology and Training on Access Technology.

Use the "Our Services" option for more details.

vimac has been involved with examination modification, and transcribes a variety of Local Authority and National Organisations' materials.

vimac is also involved in ground breaking research in the area of producing tactile models of the façades of buildings and the development of a refreshable braille tablet.
